Memorial Day is upon us, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the reason we observe this day, and offer one of my favorite BBQ recipes for you and your guests to enjoy!

The BBQ tradition on this day holds true not only because of the great food, but for the nature of the meal. Aside from BBQ’s being a general American tradition, they naturally bring family and friends together, and are one of the more social meals you can enjoy. Why? Because the entire party is involved from the beginning to end. You can mingle with guests through every stage of the process. From preparing the food, to grilling outside and through eating. It’s a naturally social meal.

This goes much deeper than the traditional Memorial Day BBQ. From the beginning of time, food has nourished our bodies, minds and souls. This is why every holiday and most family gatherings are centered around food. One of the many reasons I started No More ‘To Go’. While I love great food, I also love the fact that it brings families together, and makes them stronger.

So, I encourage you to host this year’s meal, as we remember close friends and family who have served our country, both those still with us and those not. Show them you are thankful they risk & risked their lives for us, and for others they don’t even know. That’s one of the truest acts of courage, and hosting a BBQ is the perfect opportunity to not only ‘say’ thank you, but show it with good food and company.

There are countless ways we can show our appreciation every day, and we should, but what better time to show our love to service members and their families than the day dedicated to them. For some it’s a celebration of life, and for others it’s a celebration of lives lived. Either way, we challenge you to to make Memorial Day a true day of remembrance. As you gather with those closest to you, be sure your meal really does say ‘Thank You’ to service members, both past and present.

As you serve those who have served you, try one of my favorite BBQ recipes below:
