Snacking is probably the greatest threat to everyone’s endeavors in maintaining a healthy diet. And when you think about it, the reason we snack is because we just can’t seem to be able to have an organized kitchen with a solid meal plan. We go for the fast fix, which is right to the cupboard where the chips and less-than-healthy snack items are easy to get to. Some before-thought ideas can help you get organized in the kitchen, and avoid the snack temptation.

The first thing to think about is having a proper meal plan. This is easily accomplished by looking online for a good source of healthy planning. Sites such as NoMoreToGo offer a great way to take the guess work out from the start. Not everyone has time for looking through volumes of books to understand proper meal planning. Consider letting someone else do the work for you!

Having an organized kitchen is the next step. If healthy foods are easier to access, you’re less inclined to dip into the bag of chips. Everyone likes to save money by buying in bulk. But then when you try to get to it, especially if frozen, you’ll either abandon the attempt, or end up wasting food by thawing out more than you want; freeze and store items in portions rather than bulk. And this can even apply to condiments and ingredients. You’ll have full control over what is just right for you meal.

Prep meals in advance. This isn’t as hard as you might think and can save you time and hassle if you set out the items for dinner before you leave for work. Having that small stash of items already out when you get home ensures it’s what is eaten, and not resorting to take-out. Bottom line: plan ahead.
