Parents are forever juggling a variety of responsibilities. Because of this it’s very easy (but understandable) for our eating habits to be on the rather unhealthy side. Here are some helpful tips to incorporate in your daily routine to help shed those unwanted pounds.

  • Do not feel pressured to finish everything on your plate.

Just because there is food leftover on your plate does not mean that you have to finish it. Even the smallest morsel of food has calories in it.

  • Partake in each meal only once.

If you know you want to eat dinner when your significant other gets off work, then wait and do that. If you are planning on eating breakfast at work, do not eat in the morning with your kids. As tempting as it might be to “snack” on something to tide you over it, that can very easily turn into an unintentional meal.

  • Drink water

Your body confuses thirst with hunger, so make sure you are well hydrated. Keep a bottle of water on you at all times and try to drink a serving of it before snacking. This will prohibit overindulging, with the added bonus of keeping your skin radiant.

  • Focus on the positive

Any lifestyle change will take some getting used to, especially when it involves food. It will be very tempting to want to focus on the things you can’t have. Instead, focus on what you can enjoy. Fruits and vegetables offer a lot of flavor variety and you can eat more servings of those. By filling up on the healthy products you are far less likely to dine on junk food.

  • Skipping a meal is okay.

Busy schedules means sometimes missing out on breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and that’s perfectly fine. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Just be careful that you don’t gorge yourself on empty calories when you do get the chance to eat. And try to take easy to carry and eat snacks (banana, nuts or peanut butter crackers etc.) for that instance.

Despite a busy schedule, incorporating these 5 tips into your life will not only keep your diet in check, but also support your health. Leaving you feeling great and energetic.
