If You Can’t Stand the Heat…

The kitchen is often one of the hottest rooms in the house- which can be a problem come summer time. You don’t want to spend afternoons sweating and struggling to make dinner because of summer’s heat, so consider some of these things you can do to make your kitchen cool down.

  1. Cook a lot of food at once. Having leftovers to heat up in the microwave the next day is better than having to heat up the stove every night for dinner. The microwave doesn’t affect the temperature of the kitchen nearly as much as the oven, so try to have leftovers on hand as often as possible.
  2. When you’re storing the leftovers, make sure they are completely cooled off before placing them in the fridge. Heating up the fridge with warm leftovers can affect the kitchen’s temperature.
  3. Cook later in the day. When the house has cooled off at night, it makes it easier to offset the oven’s heat.
  4. Maintain your oven and refrigerator. Spills and burns in the oven can make it cook your food unevenly, affecting the heat and wasting energy. In addition, your refrigerator should stay organized and well stocked. You don’t want too much empty space, or energy is wasted trying to cool everything.
  5. Also keep your refrigerator away from the sun and the stove. This heat can make the fridge use up more energy to cool the food it contains.
  6. Try to look for energy-saving kitchen appliances. They may be more expensive, but in the heat of summer, its important to save as much energy as possible.

Follow these tips, and continue to look for ways to save energy and keep your kitchen cool. Hopefully your summer will be filled with good meals and a comforting kitchen atmosphere.
