Breakfast is one of the best (and most important) meals of the day, but it’s really easy to think of excuses for skipping it. Maybe you feel like you don’t have time to make or eat a breakfast in the midst of rushing off to work or school. Maybe you feel like you don’t need to eat anything until you feel the rumbling in your stomach telling you that you’re hungry. Or maybe you just don’t like eating breakfast.

Since I’m an advocate of healthy life-styles, I felt it’s important to cover exactly why breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially as it relates to your health! Plus, there are countless delicious recipes you can make for breakfast. One of my favorites is at the end of this blog post…

Eating Breakfast Gets Your Metabolism Up and Running

Drinking a glass of water and having a healthy breakfast can give your metabolism the kick-start it needs to keep going all day long. With a fast metabolism, you will be able to shed unwanted pounds much quicker.

Breakfast Curbs Your Cravings Throughout the Day

It has been proven that people who do not eat breakfast end up craving more carbohydrates throughout the day. They also crave more unhealthy foods such as sweets and soft drinks, and become indifferent to fruits and vegetables.

Breakfast Skippers Carry More Fat

It has also been proven that people who DO eat breakfast in the morning are 40% less likely to develop fat around the belly area. When you don’t supply the body with the food it needs, it will hold onto fat and put itself into “starvation mode”.  You are only making it harder on yourself to get rid of unwanted fat and reveal your muscles.

Breakfast Makes You Smarter

Okay, eating breakfast may not give you super-human intelligence, but it does improve your brain function! Students who ate healthy breakfasts have shown improvements in various intellectual tests, as well as hand-eye coordination, better overall grades, better memory, and an improved ability to focus and concentrate.

What’s the Best Breakfast?

Common sense tells us that high sugar breakfasts such as donuts or sugary cereals are probably not the best options. The best breakfasts include whole grains, whole fruits, protein, and non-fat dairy. There are so many ways you can mix these things up and come up with amazing breakfast creations.

My Favorite Breakfast?? – It’s Simple.

  • I make half a cup of whole grain oats with water (metabolism booster, whole grain, protein, fiber)
  • Add some cinnamon (metabolism booster, great taste)
  • Throw in some flaxseed (some extra fiber & nutrients)
  • Add fruit such as a banana, strawberries, or blackberries (WAY too many health benefits to list about fruit)
  • And lastly, add a splash of sugar-free maple syrup or honey (a little sweetness)
