Every year, there are certain health trends that appear and gain popularity over time. 2014 is no exception; people are perhaps more interested in eating healthy now than ever before. Consumers are buying more and more local produce and meat, and the word “organic” is a must-have for many food shoppers.

Homegrown Health

More and more people are purchasing food locally, at grocery stores and farmers’ markets. In addition to local food, homemade things are becoming popular as well. With new technology like the “Sodastream”, people can make their own sodas at home without extra additives and chemicals. Smoothies and protein shakes are also a current health food trend- the “Green Smoothie” can be found in the blenders of many Americans trying out a new recipe. Investing in devices that make homegrown healthy food quick and easy can be very beneficial for 2014.

Popular Protein

A recent survey found that most of America eats breakfast at home, and that these meals are often very high in protein. Filling your breakfast with things like Greek yogurt, eggs, etc. can optimize the amount of protein you get to start your day. An interest in consuming more protein also comes from the powder found in many shakes and smoothies. Next time you get a smoothie from a local shop, ask for extra protein to give it a healthy boost.

More Sensitive Menus

Another trend that is quickly becoming more widespread is gluten-free food. Going gluten-free can benefit your digestive system, energy levels, and even your mood and focus. Many restaurants are now catering to this diet, and offer a variety of options without gluten.  In addition to this, other food specifications are being catered to, such as certain allergens and dietary requirements. This is a trend that is spreading to many restaurants and stores.
