Meet Georgia of Center Ceramics in Binghamton, New York. “Clay is my passion. The everyday is my inspiration. I have had my hands in clay since I was a little girl. It has always been an exciting medium and I’m happiest when I’m experimenting with a new design in the studio.
I find particular enjoyment creating useful objects. The most everyday items- a cup for morning coffee, a bowl for evening meals- can be artful and meaningful.
I love making pieces that buyers will enjoy in their daily rituals. Seemingly mundane tasks can be elevated when we choose handmade items to fill our homes.
Inspiration comes from real life too; a friend’s cooking, my mom’s garden, a great find on Etsy! My current line of ceramic wares is inspired by my cousin’s home in the mountains and her great style. Combining modern sensibilities with rustic outdoors to create a classic, but never uptight feel.”

Pinch and Prep Bowls (Retail Value $58)
This small set of stoneware pinch bowls, nested together or nestled side by side, look lovely on a kitchen counter, and are perfect for cooking prep. The handmade wheel-thrown bowls are a sturdy weight meant for everyday use in cooking, serving, snacking or displaying items. Both clay and glazes are lead-free and food safe. Bowls are microwave and dishwasher safe, although they prefer to be hand washed. Bowls are nested sets measuring approximately 2 1/4 inches in height, 5 inches in diameter.

Ever since my children were little, I have treasured their handmade gifts. I still have most of them and now I have a grandson who does the same.

I love having things that are handmade in my home. They just seem to hold such love and positive energy than things that were mass produced and made as cheaply as possible in some factory far overseas. Plus they have more character.

I lost my old home in Katrina , & when I finally got rebuilt I decided only things handmade, or of real value to me would go in this home. life is too short to be surrounded by meaningless space takers.

I agree. It is good to get back to the way things used to be – home made with care and joy! So much more satisfying than the rush-rush, commercialized, buy-me-now world we live in.
These bowls were made by the daughter of one of my closest friends in H.S, It’s likely too late to have an opportunity to win this set, but if it is, I’ll be sure to purchase something similar made by her. She is indeed an artist creating lovely pottery – delicate and sweet like I’m sure she is.
